Storing paint brushes between paint jobs in water

Average: 3 (2 votes)

Idea

Fill an empty can with water and put the brushes there. Make sure that the bristles are in the water. Later, you can simply remove the paint brush from the can, soak the water into a paper tissue or a cloth and start painting again.

Water does not dissolve an oil-based paint. Therefore, the paint stays on the bristles. Water isolates the oxygen in the airo from the paint on the brush. Therefore, the paint does not harden up.

Limitations and Side Effects

This idea works well if you keep the paint brushes in the water for several days or weeks. If you leave the paint brushes in the water too long, the bristles become ragged.
